Pope Francis called on all people to trust in God’s mercy on Sunday in remarks to the faithful gathered for the Angelus prayer in St Peter’s Square. “God’s mercy is not mere sentiment,” he said, but rather, “a force that gives life, that raises man up!” After the Angelus, Pope Francis recalled the beatification in Krakow on Sunday of two Polish women religious: Zofia Czeska Maciejowska, who, in the first half of the 17th century, founded the Congregation of the Virgins of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary; Margaret Lucia Szewczyk, who in the 19th century founded the Congregation of the Daughters of Our Lady of Sorrows. “With the Church in Krakow,” said Pope Francis, “we give thanks to the Lord!”
