On Monday Pope Francis received the President of the Republic of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos Calderón. Their talks focused on current figure of Mother Laura Montoya Upegui, the first native Colombian to be proclaimed a saint canonized yesterday in St. Peter’s Square. Mother Laura was a prolific interpreter of the Christian roots of her country. The contribution of the Church to promote “culture of encounter “and her works in the service of human and spiritual progress of the country were also mentioned. The challenges that Colombia faces, especially with regard to social inequalities were discussed.
