Christianity is the religion of freedom and joy. This is what Pope Francis said in the homily of this morning’s mass, in which he spoke about Elizabeth and Mary and of Jesus in the Temple. He said: “It is actually the Spirit who guides us. He is the author of joy, the Creator of joy. And this joy in the Spirit gives us true Christian freedom. Without joy, we Christians cannot become free; we become slaves of our sadness. The great Paul VI would say that the Gospel cannot be advanced with sad, distrustful, discouraged Christians. It is not possible. This attitude is a little funerary, eh? Many times, Christians seem to look more like they are going to a funeral procession than going to worship God, no? …
