The Lenten spiritual exercises for the Pope and the Roman Curia began last night in the Redemptoris Mater Chapel in the Vatican. The exercises are preached by Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, president of the Pontifical Council for Culture. The theme is: “Ars orandi, ars credendi. The face of God and the face of man in the Psalm prayers”. The exercises began with the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, followed by Second Vespers of the first Sunday of Lent. Cardinal Ravasi’s first meditation proposed a Biblical image to represent the future presence of Benedict XVI in the Church, a contemplative presence, like that of Moses, who climbs the mountain to pray for the people of Israel, who in the valley below …
